No Luck on the Irish Day

St. Patrick's Day+ mom  who isn't paying enough attention to her kids +
a bored four year old + scissors= the following pictures. I guess the hair cut she got last month (shown in an earlier post) wasn't what she wanted, so she took matters in to her own hands!

So I am not very good at the whole holiday thing, like decorating all cute or even decorating  for holidays and then having colored or traditional meals that fit the hoilday. I was trying to make up for this by having a traditional Irish dinner. So I was fixing corned beef, cabbage and potatoes and looking at stuff on the computer, when I came out to check on the food which I burned and noticed Lilly acting a little silly. She stood up on the couch and said,"Mom, do you like my hair?" And I was still distracted and just said "yea" not really looking at it or anything.
But then Lilly said,"I wonder how you are going to glue it back on?" That was when all my spider scences went nuts and I was like glue it back on, oh no what did you do.  You can see what she did and this all happened in the seven o'clock hour, with preschool the next morning.
I calmly ask her  why and where was the hair she had cut (hence the box pic.) and what was she thinking. And then proceded to tell her she was not allowed to use scissors for the next week at least and no playing with Dad's ipod and to get in the car because we had to find someplace open that could fix her hair before preschool the next day.
Thanks to Great Clips and the lady there, Lilly's hair didn't turn out too bad. You can see how much more they had to cut off to fix what she had done. In fact it is really cute and lots of people have commented on it, it is just a sore spot for me because I was a dilinquent mom.
But on the other side I had it coming to me. When I was little and had just a little bit of hair, I told my cousin who was just a few years older than me that I needed a trim off of the top, one day when we were playing. Needless to say we both got in a bit of trouble, and I am sure my mom did one of those mother cursing/blessings  that mothers do when they say, "I hope you have a child that is just like you when you get older!"

Haircuts . . . ah yes. It makes me want to post a few memories. You did a great job of making things better. But does it make you want to brace for impact over the next thing she MIGHT do? I feel that way. Often.

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
