I love my job of helping my adopted grandmas, but some days I just don't understand their thinking. Today was one of those days. They have these funny little quarks about things that boggle my mind.
The thing today was the water heater. It hadn't been working for two and a half days. If I hadn't tried to rinse the wash rag out with warm water it may have been longer, like the end of the week when my parents get moved in. I will explain.
My parents are working on moving in to"the cottage" behind Evelyn and Roberta's house. My dad had to turn off there gas on Friday to hook up the gas line to his house. When he was done he came in and lit the pilot light for their water heater. It worked until sometime mid Saturday and then went out. That meant that Roberta who takes her bath in the morning had warm or hot water, but Evelyn had to heat up water on the stove to have a warm bath that night. Not to mention any dishes she did she would have heated water on the stove to do them with as well.
Evelyn is such a funny lady. I would be upset with Roberta too, but her memory isn't good enough to know that this was happening. She has trouble with what happened hours ago let alone days.
When I told, half scolded Evelyn for not mentioning it she said she had heard on the news that part of a city had been with out gas for eleven days and it hadn't been that long so they were okay, besides they could just heat the water on the stove.
That didn't go over very well with me. I told her that they weren't with out gas and it would only take a minute if that and they didn't NEED to be stuck with cold water. They weren't pioneers. Evelyn was still pretty insistent that I just let it be though. So.... what did I do?
I played like a little kid and waited till I left which was just after my discovery, (I had to get home to be there for when Lilly came home from school.) then I called my mom. I feel like a tattle tale but am justifying my decision because the fix was something that would take under a minute. I may be fired tomorrow but at least they have hot water and didn't have to wait a week for it!
