I just want to go to SCHOOL

My entertainment this morning has been Lilly. She has been up since 7, playing with Daryl, and getting ready for school. She was already to walk out the door when I asked her if she had finished putting away her clean laundry from her basket. When she begrudginly said she had not I old her that she could spend 5-10 minutes and finish that job and still be on time to school.
That was not what she wanted to hear. She started moaning and stomping and asking why she couldn't just go to school. I just persisted that she needed to finish her job from yesterday and she would still be on time to school. This lead to tears, more stomping, and even a moment of sulking/ throwing a fit on the floor. She kept saying," I just want to go to school. Why won't you let me go to school? I want to go right now. I don't want to do this. I bet you don't want me to go to school."
It was rather funny.  At one point while she was on the floor I sent Daryl over to her. He gave her a kiss and mentioned something about happy to her.
Luckily she finished eventually and is now at school. She was even on time, just not as early as she wanted to be.
Unfortunately I think her fit started off the day on a wrong note. Lucy has started in on the whining chorus where Lilly left off.
Oh, what a day it will be.

Please give Lucy a hug from Aunt Patty. I wish I had been there to help her put her stuff away, and giggle with her for a bit. Do you think that might have helped? Maybe not, but it would have been good for me!

Her whining IS funny. It probably wasn't when it was directed at you as the only adult around, but I loved reading about it. When she is a senior and keeps telling you how they are doing NOTHING at school, you can remind her how much she once wanted to be there.

That's a technique my most complex kid uses too: "You're being untrue to your highest values because you aren't letting me have my way." DON'T give in.

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
