Excellent Eleven

Lilly turned 11 a two and a half weeks ago on May 18th. I have a hard time believing I have a child that old but sometimes she seems so much older. She is really a good kid.  She is responsible, fun considerate, spunky, silly, nice,...I could go on and on. We have felt comfortable enough that for the last six months or so, we have been having her babysit the other kids while we go on dates or run errands  for not too long and not too far from home. She has done great; there has been plenty of screen time during these times but still it is nice to have a quick babysitter.

For her birthday she wanted different cases for her ipod, a kendama, and a bike, some of her favorite treats, and to go out to eat and swimming as a family. Glen got her the kendama and I got her some treats and we agreed on getting her a new bike. The bike is a bigger thing and we want her to value it more so we are going half way with her. She smartly ask her grandparents for money for her birthday instead of a gift so she didn't have to use so much of what she has saved.
This is the only picture that was taken while we were out to eat. She chose Leatherby's, which we all like, especially their ice cream treats. We only made it out to eat on her actual birthday.
Her friends wanted to walk to the grocery store with her so they could get her something. Since it was her day she got to choose, so they went but we couldn't fit everything else in.They were set on walking even if it might rain on them. They just made it to the store before a good down pour. When various parents offered rides home they all declined because the rain had lightened up and they wanted to walk.  Wednesday we went swimming before her lessons.
We are still shopping for the bike, but this one is in the running.  I will post the one she ends up with.
She still likes to write stories and draw but is getting more interested in hand lettering and calligraphy stuff. Another thing she likes to do is color her hair with her markers. She came home from school like this the other day. I am not sure I love it, but there are worse things and it does wash out. Her teacher and friends think she is crazy for doing it. That doesn't stop her. She doesn't always care if she is doing what others think is okay. She likes to be a little different sometimes.
At eleven, she is too old for me to post her stats from her doctors check up but she is doing great. She switched from tumbling to swimming earlier this year. Even though she has just been getting through the stroke school classes she really likes it and is happy she did it. She also is just about done so she may try swim team or splash ball, which is a beginner water polo.
Her favorite color is the rainbow, so everything I guess. Favorite subject is P.E. Other favorites are reading, climbing trees, playing with animals, going to the library and hanging out with friends. Her best friends are Halle, Lina and Emily. Foods she likes are chicken tenders, chicken fettuccine alfredo, and grilled cheese sandwiches. Favorite treats are now and laters, jaw breakers, ice cream, and gelato.

Fun with hair. Love it. I think we could spend some quality tree time together, me and Lilly. I climbed one on Saturday.

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
