Less is more

I have several other posts mostly done but not published because they just seem to be taking g too much time. I remember reading in a book about a man’s approach to journaling. He said people didn’t start because it took too much time so he decided to journal but stop before her wanted too or thought he was done.I am going to try that here. Maybe it will help with my consistency?

Where to start?  It was a snow day today. No school or technically work for the kids and Glen. What that actually looked like was Glen responding to emails and doing other computer work from home, while Lilly worked on homework and online classes. Lucy going sledding with friends and hanging out with them for part of the day and the little kids being mad that they couldn’t go sledding at that time too. Then they grumpily accompanied me to Herriman to check on Evelyn because I promised them I would find them a sledding hill at Uncle Joe’s or Aunt Maridean’s.
Snow days are not as fun when parents have work too.

My mom is in Bryce Canyon for a quilt retreat. She left last Thursday and won’t be back till this next Monday. I feel like I have moved in at Evelyn’s. I remember what happened last time she left- Roberta died once she was back. I am hoping the same type of thing doesn’t happen,... unless it’s suppose too. It’s a complicated thing.
Evelyn has been doing pretty well the last month but the last week hasn’t been as good. As her hospice nurse, Arla has said, “She’s the kind of patient that I wouldn’t be surprised to hear she had passed tomorrow but I also wouldn’t be surprised if she’s around awhile longer. She also has about a 50/50 chance of having a really nice passing where she just goes to sleep and doesn’t wake up.”
We are just trying to enjoy whatever time we have left with her.

Glen is loving his welding class that was his Christmas present. He was happy for a surprise day to not have to take care of other people’s misbehaving children though he does like his job.

Lilly is an assistant to the director for the high school play Puffs and in the ensemble of Once on This Island Jr. with the community theater group. She just signed up for financial literacy and P.E. online to add to her already full schedule. She’s trying to not freak out about up coming MDT auditions and expenses for her New York trip and other figuring out life things too much and enjoy being a kid/teenager.

Lucy is loving her semi competitive volleyball team and has her first tournament this weekend. Her. friends are always wanting to hang out and have all sorts of group chats going and she has decided not to have them on her phone but keep them on mine so they don’t take all her minutes. They also just did an English project on the Harry Potter series that was pretty funny and cringe worthy. Oh the fun of middle school group projects.

Daryl is a typical 9 year old boy. He is good and fun and loud and annoying and trying to figure things out and still be a kid. We are trying to not tell him he’s annoying even when we really think he is. 🤭 He said he wants to try playing football so I think we’ll sign him up for flag football to see how he does with it. He loves legos and anything with an engine and has lots of ideas on how to destroy and things in somewhat violent ways that I think are just part of the age. Glen introduced him to the Sim City  video game that he use to play growing up and he loves it.

Ruth is starting to get her two front teeth. She really wants to do gymnastics so I guess I should get on getting her in a class. She likes the color blue and loves riding the Hoover board. She wants to be able to play with friends as much as Lucy. She is a completely different kid at school than at home I think. She LOVES school so much and has even decided that the bully in her class isn’t too bad.  She is passionate, and sassy and funny. She quickly beat every one in the What’s that meme game Glen got for Christmas.

Beth is silly and feisty and really fun. She’s in to giving cow kisses right now so it’s not uncommon for her to lick the side of your face. She wants to do the splits and thinks I am her jungle gym half the time. She is best frienemies with her cousin Ellie. She is sneaky but sweet and shy. She loves pink and dressing up and being a mermaid or Queen Elsa and mostly not wearing shoes or weather appropriate clothing.  She really likes preschool but regularly tells me she doesn’t and she never wants to go back. She wants to play with her friends a lot and still really has a crush on Lilly’s friend Camron who is sixteen. She has been completely potty trained for several  months now and it’s so nice but it also reminds me that we are moving to another phase of life.

Here are some pictures from the week. Mostly from the kids except Beth sleeping over at Aunt Ali and Uncle Derek’s house and playing with their dogs.
Hot wheels track and bread coming at Ali and Derek’s
The giant jaw breaker sucker Ruth got from the sleep over that she finished that day
The large amount of wood my dad has gotten from removing trees from one of their properties.
Lucy loving on Nova one of Ali and Derek’s Great Danes.
 Evelyn in here chair
Lilly and Nova about to dance.
Beth trying to go to bed with Evelyn, but she’s a little to wiggly to be a good sleeping partner.

Our snow day picture out the kitchen wind at Cranes.

I love this snapshot of this moment in time. I especially like that Lucy is gaming your phone with her group chats. That might convince you sooner to get her more minutes! And so dear to know you have limited time with Evelyn, but not how much, just wanting to enjoy what you have. I love getting to know each of your kids at this age. Evie is getting her two front teeth in--they started right in time for Christmas, and Griff is disappointed his baby front teeth aren't even out yet. Thank you for blogging!

Destroying in somewhat comment ways. Hmmm. Sounds like fun. I had no idea people go away for quilting retreats. Do they take their own equipment along, or is it like a destination vacation with new machines to try? I loved doing welding when I had lessons. John found me that opportunity. It's expensive to do at home. You are so good at portraying your people with love.

I meant "somewhat violent" to quote you. Didn't proof-read after voice recognition. Sigh.

Great snapshot of life. So much happening! These are the years we will remember as being so busy. I remember my mom talking about "those years". The picture of Beth and Evelyn was so dear!

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
