We are trying to adjust to this new life style. Trying to do the social distancing and online school thing. Trying to be patient and kind with one another and not go completely bonkers.
The few things that have stayed the same are Glen’s job. So far he still needs to go in to the school. My work, Evelyn still needs help and company. She’s confused by all my kids being with me every day. School is still happening but in a much different form. Lilly still have voice lessons but that it.
Evelyn wasn’t around for it but heard her family talk of the flu pandemic of 1918-1919. It’s been kind of comforting having that connection and knowing Roberta made it through that one. I am glad she didn’t have to make it through another. We are hoping our attempts at social distancing help flatten the curve and help the older people in our lives stay healthy and safe.
The kids really want to play with friends but so far we have limited it to cousins. Lilly and her friends are doing video google hangouts so they can see each other a few times a week. Lucy’s friends blow up my phone every now and then with complaints that they are so sick of their family and they need to see each other.
I told my friend in a text that I thought I was having a chance to make weak things strong, but was feeling more like all my weaknesses were being exploited. I haven’t ever felt like I have been a good teacher. I have been happy to have the help of others in teaching my kids. I guess I have leaned on it too much and get to regroup. It’s not like I am completely alone now, just the logistics of trying to help facilitate 5 different levels of learning and the demands of all those different teachers is a bit of a big task.
I’ll stop complaining.
The good is -my kids are getting time and experiences with Evelyn and their grandparents they wouldn’t normally have.
- we are all healthy
- It is officially spring and it’s showing up more and more. Daffodils, grass turning green, new buds on trees.
- We are making good use of the basketball hop we got for Christmas with games of poison and horse.
- We haven’t been affected financially by this.
- we have seen ways we could be more prepared and can make plans to get to that point.
And a few random pictures that I didn’t already share from the week.

Beth had a baby doll this week and was taking care of it very well. Evelyn has a hard time with temperature regulation. She is often freezing or “just a cooking” |

Beth took this picture of Glen and then said, “ Ha, I pictured you.” |

Beth insisted on wearing these stuffed animal shoes for a day. She reminded us of a faun or the llama in Llama Llama mad at Momma. |

Lucy’s math teacher really gets online school. A few math problems mixed with funny and calming videos to watch. |

I'm glad to hear about Lucy's math teacher. I must work on finding good videos! Love it.
There's always an interesting mix of good and hard when the unexpected happens, isn't there? Your job sounds pretty hard right now. 5 different levels of teaching isn't easy for anyone!! You go girl!
