Keeping things interesting

Yesterday the kids and I were woken up by a 5.7 earthquake just after 7 am. It was not the way we expecting to start the first day of at home learning for school. The districts and teachers had Monday and Tuesday to figure out how to move things online so students could still learn during our soft closure of schools.
Lots of kids were trying to do their part and work on school work online and it overwhelmed the servers of one of the computer monitoring companies our district uses.
Needless to say it was an interesting morning with a few meltdowns from being scared from the earthquake and technology not working like it was expected too.

The plus side is everyone but Glen was home and we were all safe. We have no damage to our property and there were no lives lost in the state due to the earthquake. Evelyn isn’t a fan of earthquakes but her and her old little house fared just fine.  Glen got to come home after only a few hours at work and still got paid for the day.
This is how I found Lilly and what siblings she could get to protect themselves under the table this morning.
This at home learning is going to be an interesting adventure. I hope all the restrictions to try and flatten the curve work. Turns out I really appreciated being able to have my kids go to school and learn.
Some other good things that have come from being home and at Evelyn’s are -
lots of time with Evelyn and kids reading to her

Lilly finally finished this birthday present for her friend. She drew and painted everything herself and are favorites of her friend.

The earthquake sounded crazy! I heard it shut down the airport.

I'm impressed that kids in Utah are doing online learning. We are only offering "extended learning" opportunities. Even administrators are at home.

The picture of Lilly protecting siblings is so sweet!!

That painting is great! Evelyn has so many more minutes with people interacting with her. Does it wear her out, or energize her? Both? Glad you're all safe.

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
