It has been awhile

Life has been moving right along. I think just when I feel like I am getting in to some kind of grove something changes. Summer has brought its own changes and challenges from online school.
Here are some things from this past week that feel like blessings.
  • Going on a long walk with Glen on Father’s Day morning, and then spending the day with the kids and his parents.
Larry and Janene had a camp site at Granite Flats up American Fork canyon so we went up there for the evening. A few things weren’t great like being eaten by mosquitoes and the radiator revisor on the motorhome leaking but mostly it was great.
  • Topher even came up with them. It was the first time we have seen him in a long time. It was great to see how much he is growing and changing and to have little time around him.

  • Glen being able to find the right part and fix the radiator part before they brought the motorhome down the mountain.
  • Carpooling with other parents to get Lucy and her friends to volleyball clinics. It’s made that so much easier and doable.
  • Lilly being able to get herself to her rehearsals and back home and Larry and Janene helping to get her to work so I can still be at work.
  • Swimming at “Grandpa Egbert’s pool of oppression” with cousins and just our family.
  • My mom’s eye surgery going well and fixing the floaters and issues she has had since cataract surgery. No here is to hoping she will take it easy to prevent other complications.
  • Mile high raspberry pie! It’s a perfect summer treat- cool, refreshing and delicious with out being over sweet. Plus only four ingredients and a graham cracker crust.
  • A sneaky date with Glen after we dropped Lilly off at Evermore park to meet up with friends. After a couple attempts at other restaurants we were able to walk right in with out a reservation and be seated at the perfect spot at Los Hermanos  and ended up with their back room basically to ourselves.
  • Cousins being able to fill in for teammates for the volleyball tournament Lucy played in Saturday. It made it even more fun!
  • Glen taking the kids to church. I was planning on going but woke up with a headache and just not feeling great and decided resting and staying home was the right thing to do. We currently get to meet every other week with half of our ward for an abbreviated sacrament meeting. I was sad to miss it because it has been nice to be together with part of the ward again even in a socially distant way.
  • Napping and feeling better.
  • Being able to have my sister-in law, Jill and her 7 kids stay with us after they had to evacuate their house because of the Knolls fire in Saratoga Springs.
  • Having enough food in the house to feed everyone even though we were low on lots of things and I hadn’t made it to Costco on Saturday.
  • Jill and the kids being able to go home today to a house that probably just smells like smoke. The fire came up to their subdivision and burned right around it.
  • This one sounds funny but the Star Wars Rebels series has been what everyone watches together before going to bed at night. I don’t know that it is the best thing be cause it doesn’t necessarily help the kids wind down or us get to bed earlier but it’s something the kids and Glen look forward too. I am usually working on something at the sewing machine or in the background because tv isn’t really my thing but I do try and keep up with the story for the most part so I know what everyone else is talking about when they talk about it.

Wouldn't it be great to know what a "pool of oppression"is? Wow. Evacuation during quarantine? That's a lot to manage in a single summer. Your date with Glen sounds perfect. Such fun!

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
