Happy Birthday Janene

My wonderful mother-in-law turned 79 on the 10th. If there is a mother-in-law lottery when you get married, I am pretty sure I won it. Janene is great! Above are a couple of pictures I took of her on her birthday when she came to see Evelyn. She was also returning Ruth from going birthday shopping with her. Ruth got the presents that day not Janene.
The next day on Ruth’s birthday the whole family got together at Texas Roadhouse to celebrate her and Ruth a little. It was somewhat monumental because all of the Rindlisbacher’s were there!!! It’s been quite some time since we have seen Mikayla. She’s a busy lady working at Nordstrom’s, going to school and last I heard making the Dean’s list. The only downside was that we were seated in two separate booths.  We are working on finding a restaurant that has a space we could all share together.

Picture proof we saw Janae and all her kids. Janae has the long hair behind Lilly. Mikayla is to the right of her and Topher to the right of her. Josh and Colton are across the table next to Janene.

Janene goes about doing good and sharing wisdom from all the books she reads. And she has read and is reading a lot.
She loves to visit with people and take them on rides in Chitty Chitty. She can work over a Savers or DI like no one I know.  She values relationships. She loves you how you are even if she might expect better of you sometimes. She thinks deep thoughts and not so deep thoughts. She loves animals. She loves the gospel of Jesus Christ. She loves her family, past present and future. She has a soft spot for anything western and from Arizona. She seems to need to recharge her batteries every so often with pure Arizona sunshine. When her sister passed away, she was so upset at not having a sister in this world with her. She didn’t know if she could bear it. She phoned her dear cousin and ask her to be her sister as well as cousin. She loves her husband and patently waits for him to open the door for her every single time they go somewhere together, even though she can open doors. I could keep going on.

I ask Glen and the kids what their favorite things about Grandma Richins were and these are the responses-

Glen says she is fun and very kind and considerate of others.
Lilly likes that she is funny and knows how to help people and likes to help people and go on adventures.
Lucy likes that she is funny.
Daryl likes that she is fun to be around and kind of goofy.
Ruth likes that she is kind and goofy and lest us have sleepovers.
Beth likes showing her her stuffies, watching movies with her, eating popcorn with her and going to Dollar Tree with her.

I sure am glad I won that mother-in-law lottery and got a friend and mentor when I married Glen.
Happy Birthday Janene! We love you!

I am a big fan of your mother-in-law. One of the good things you did last year with let me be her budddy and share food and Living Space together in her house for a couple of months. Don't you love seeing how she can make Evelyn bust up laughing?

YES! She is all that. For the record I think she is lucky to have you too.

What a beautiful tribute to your mother-in-law. I think you were spot on. It's fun to get to know her through you as a grandmother as well. Your children and Glen's things all really showed the unique relationship she has with each of you. I'm actually frightened of being the last sister alive as well. I don't really want to live in a world without sisters either. Such a tender little bit you shared there! (I wonder which cousin she chose for her sister-cousin.)

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
