April showers bring May flowers

Let’s see what has happened this week? I am sure a whole bunch. Life is moving at a good clip and I’m trying to hold on for the ride.

It rained. That was great! We need all the water we can get.

I got a call from the principal of Hidden Valley Middle school on Monday. I was a little surprised, but then he said he was calling because Lucy was selected as student of the day!  What a nice surprise!

Also I can’t remember if I mentioned it but Lucy was selected as an SBO for next year. She felt bad they didn’t keep all six of the kids that ran, especially because the two that weren’t selected have been SBO’s with her this year. She is excited to maybe be able to do a few things next year if there aren’t as many restrictions.

Lilly found out she medaled in state for her scene in state drama competition. That was a nice surprise since she wasn’t selected to go on to the medals round.

Daryl is liking rugby more with each practice. He was not impressed after the first practice and I was worried it would be a long season.

Beth got my phone while I was getting ready one day. This was the most appropriate and best picture she got of me. We had to have a talk about when it’s okay to take pictures.
I got to go to a macaron making class with Aunt Maridean, to fill in for my cousin, who had something come up last minute. It was fun. I don’t know how much I will make them. They are tricky and I don’t have time for that right now. I have a lot more opinions about them than I did before.
Saturday, Lilly and I got our first dose of covid vaccine. We have sore arms today.
Wednesday, Beth and Ellie made rainbow cupcakes with Grandma Egbert. I was quilting when the two of them came to drop one off for Grandpa with a note. It was adorable.
Beth gets my phone a lot and likes to take selfies and doggies. Goob does not seem too pleased.

Ruth seems to be doing better. I still probably need to get more melatonin. We have had fewer rage monster moments and when we have we have been able to deal with them better. I think part of that is because she chooses to go out to the goats to calm down. They help her get back her cool better than anything we have tried. It’s nice to have progress.

Daryl, Ruth and Beth all finished their second semester of music lessons. I got to go with Daryl and Ruth to their last class, where the students taught the parents things they had learned through the semester. Saturday was their low key recital. I am so glad we found Carey Twitchell and Let’s Play Music.

Ellie and Beth got the “relaxing chairs” out this week. Marian and I think it is really fun that our kids use them, we relaxed in them and we have pictures of  Uncle Bert (Evelyn and Roberta’s dad) and our oldest cousins in them.
There were some great sunrises this week and fun clouds.
When we make Winkie let Creature nurse, Chocolate usually sneaks in and steals milk too. Funny kids.
Lucy took Lilly’s birthday gift idea to paint the lid of a glass jar with something they like and fill it with their favorite candy and run with it. This is the third one she has done. She did a cow and a sunflower for some other friends. This is for Gracie and these are here ducks.
Lilly and I went to Emma, the musical,  at Hale Center Orem to help her get the last few points she needs to become a National Honor Thespian this year.  Which means she does a LOT of theater stuff.
At the high school it was Administrative professional’s week and next week is Teacher appreciation, week as well as Cafeteria Hero’s week. Glen thought the baby goats might brighten all those peoples day. Friday we took them over to play and be petted. It was mostly female employees that enjoyed them. It seemed like a success.  One of the teachers took the picture above and all the ones below And shared them with us.

I have been able to do some quilting on a quilt I have had on the machine for months but have been avoiding. It is getting custom quilting and I haven’t felt my skills are up to the task. I found some digital patterns that are filling the gap and I have quite a back log of other quilts to do. It’s time I just suck it up and get it done. It will all work out.

Spring term started for school and I have been able to keep up with the reading and assignments so far. I don’t know what I am going to study yet. Business and health care particularly nursing are interesting to me. I am suppose to figure out by the end of the semester what I am doing so I can take the right classes in the fall. :/ This semester my classes are professional skills and the eternal family, a deep dive in to The family, a proclamation to the world. I am really liking them.

Finally, I listened to a podcast on marriage from the No Dumb Questions podcast. It’s always fun when Matt and Destin record their conversations. This made me think about the importance of marriage and working at it and keeping the covenants you have made. It also made me want to be a better wife.

I loved everything about this! Our lives with eight year olds are so similar. And because it wasn't me I got to chuckle at the inappropriate dressing pictures and selfies and doggies. But you get the added bonus of baby goats! Those were some fantastic pictures! I didn't see any strong arms helping Winkie stand still for nursing. Is she getting better at it? And you also get SBO drama and drama drama. Your older kids are just great. And your music lessons seem fun. Thank you for the down low on your schooling. So many questions we forgot to ask you! I think you would make such a fantastic nurse! And there is always, always a job waiting for you if you get that training. Thank you for sharing your goodness with me!

Prepare yourself for a long sentence that probably won't make any sense but I have to keep talking or else Google Voice will not keep recording and then I have to lose the comments I'm just going to keep talking but I really love the pictures about the goats especially the one where Glenn is carrying his baby goat across the lawn and I'm very glad to hear that Ruth is found with find her chill because she is such a delightful girl she deserves Churchill and I also really love the picture of Daryl with the barrel and the goat because that sort of Rhymes and it makes me laugh and I'm very glad about your quilt of being under way and your backlog being sort of under control because you have a lot on your plate so then I'm done talking and I'm not going to proof reading sorry about that

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
