Take a chance on me

Weeks seem to be coming fast and furious right now. This week didn’t start out great but fortunately got better.
Monday I found out a family friend passed away on Sunday evening. Janene and I had planned to visit her Monday. It was a hard learning experience. My aunt had called me Saturday to tell me that her husband posted on her Facebook page that she only had days left to live. I had the distinct thought that I should do whatever I could to go visit her that day.  It had been a bad night with Evelyn and there was a lot going on so I pushed the thought away. It was not the right decision to make. :(
I also got to deal with poor communication on my part and personality conflicts with people and planning a Relief Society activity that is different than what has been done in the past for Christmas.  I feel like I am on a giant learning curve and that looks like a half pike on a ninja warrior course. I am struggling to get up the steep pitch and get a grip on the landing, let alone pull myself up on to the landing.  It will all work out.

On the better side of things Beth went to a cookie party at a class mates house. The classmate’s grandma was there and happened to be a good friend of my mom’s. There was also another mom there that went to school with my sisters. It was fun to find all those connections.
Lucy’s new volleyball coach for her team mates discount tickets to a Utah volleyball game. She had to wear her club volleyball gear to get the discount. Lucy thought she was funny because under her club hoodie she had a BYU volleyball shirt. :)

The end of the week we got to see Lilly and the talented kids in the RHS theater department perform and shine in Mama Mia. It was so fun. Lilly did so well. It was the perfect role for her. Her and the guy cast as her opposite had great chemistry on stage and the funnest part of the play. She seemed so old and grown up, which was amazing, sobering and almost tear inducing all at the same time.  I have a whole bunch of illegal pictures of her scenes. If I find a video of her performing I’ll link it in here somewhere.
I really appreciated all the neighbors, family and friends that supported her.

The other kids were so supportive. We had only planned to see the okay once as a family but everyone ended up going back Monday for closing night. It was that fun. Daryl had a classic quote about Lilly’s kissing scene. He said, “ It was less like a kiss and more like a seizure.”

Oh how much fun to see your kids sparkle and shine! And your closing line was excellent. I'd have liked to be there to see the seizure. Lol! Also, I totally am there with you trying to recognize and DO when you have those thoughts to do something today. I have messed up in big and small ways there too. And I'm sorry for your family's loss. Thank you so much for this window into your life and family! You didn't even mention your birthday! Happy birthday on Tuesday! What did you do to celebrate? I was thinking about you and meant to text. That was another of those little thoughts that got pushed aside in the face of real life demands pressing so hard. I'm hopeful you'll have another one next year so I can redeem myself!

That Daryl. Funny guy. I’m glad he got the last laugh in this blog post. All the photos of the show are just priceless. Lucy is hilarious, too, wearing her supersecret BYU gear.

Christmas is mostly about expectations. My mother used to tell us every year that it was going to be a small Christmas, so we should prepare ourselves for that. We never felt slighted on Christmas. It was always more than we were expecting! Ha ha. Happy Birthday last week :) So nice of Heather to remind us! Your Lilly is amazing. So much fun to see her shine and I'm so glad you took illegal pictures!

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
