I don’t know how Phinas and Ferb got 104 days of summer vacation. I am glad ours ends at 75 days. I also don’t know how their mom managed a summer that long. Being a fictional character is probably what saved her…. And having brilliant children that can occupy themselves learning about and making amazing contraptions and inventions with out hurting her house, yard or pocket book may be a plus too.
We have two to three more days of summer left. I am equally parts excited and scared/panicked about the impending schedule that is about to be our lives.
We have swam, surfed, boated, camped, driven, competed, played, worked, eaten, slept over, learned, and so much more. I am sad to see it come to an end but it’s good to get back to a routine. The kids are excited but a bit nervous for school. They are also sick of all the ideas of “fun” things they could do but are bored and think bickering is an acceptable way to pass time. Too bad it’s not in my book.
Caring for Evelyn has seemed like an extra wild ride this summer. Her good days and bad days mix and change from day to day or even, hour by hour. She seems to slowly be shrinking away physically but her spirit is still strong and for the most part she wonders why her hospice people come to visit because she’s not even sick, just old.
Depending on what school you go to depends on how many days of summer you have left. Lucy has two, Daryl, Ruth and Beth have three.
In this last full week of summer, the kids(Lucy, Daryl, Ruth and Beth) and I spent a lot of time at Evelyn’s trading off with Marian so my mom could have a break and sew with her sisters and some friends in Mount Pleasant. We usually have the afternoon shift because Lucy has volleyball practice in the mornings.
Lilly has worked her last week at her phone survey job and now only has the Walmart job. She is getting things together to move out.
Glen is working on learning the ropes and other ins and outs of his new school. It’s been a good uphill climb this week.
This is what Evelyn looked like after she ASK for a bath and she wanted to get dressed. She wasn’t this happy all day but it was a nice surprising start to the day.
These are coping cards that Ruth liked during counseling. She said she would be willing to try any of them when she needed to calm down. I need to refer back to them more often.
We said good bye to Evelyn’s hospice Chaplin this week. :( She has been having health issues, some of which are a crazy heart like Evelyn (we apologized because we didn’t know it was catching.), and decided to move to a different state and quit working to enjoy life and have a different pace. We are going to miss her. She has been a great help.
Jed’s family came down for the weekend. As Ellie said, “ The gang is back together.” Everyone soaked up as much cousin time as they could in the carefree summer days. My cousin Cheryl is friends with a guy that owns and trains large birds and birds of prey. He brought 3 birds and did a little bird show for us. It was really cool.
