This week was a rough week for me. I’ll own that up front. There is a lot going on and some of the things just keep persisting and are out of my control. Even though I would really like to control them and have them be a check box on a list and I check that box and move on to the next task. That is not how things are working out. It’s a bit frustrating and feels a lot like eating humble pie which is sometimes delicious but not always and generally hard to swallow.
Here are the silver linings from the week that seemed pretty gray and cloudy.
This short and this devotional. They helped me remember that sometimes hard is part of the plan. Other people have their own hard too. It will all work out. Look for the light.
Running in to a neighbor who was walking in the early morning with both of us in different routes than we usually go on, and having a quick chat with her. It was a good boost and great distraction to the thoughts in my head.
Sunrises on the way to school with Lucy. They happen at just the right time right now and have been stunning.
Helping with the fun run at the elementary and the rain holding off till the last two classes. The one running was the cluster classes and they were happy to have their running time shortened by half. The other was the pm kindergarten class. There is only one of them so moving inside was not a problem.
Rain. It’s been nice to get a little here and there and seems like a good refresh/reset.
With out much warning or any practice Lucy was ask to warm up and play on the JV volleyball team. She sat the bench one game and then got in a little in a few sets. She’s playing defensive specialist, which she has never played before but has learned on the fly and done pretty good with. It’s been a fun development.
A good husband and kids who put up with me and are pretty patient and give me grace when I am not at my best.
School has started for me and is hard. I get frustrated because my journey through it doesn’t look like most peoples. It is good and challenging me and hopefully making me a better version of myself in the process.
I don’t know if it was good or bad, maybe just more entertaining; Friday night I went to pick up Lucy from the high school after her volleyball tournament. When I got there she was ready to go but there were a hundred or so kids standing around in a circle for a fight. I ask her what was going on and she said it was some kind of fight club. A couple kids had decided to fight each other with boxing gloves and all just for fun or something. Even though it was a mutually agreeable thing I didn’t think it was a good idea. I called Glen for his advise on the situation and he suggested reporting it to the police as an not emergency situation. I did and Lucy and I decided to stay and just see what happened with the situation. The fighting broke up and maybe half of the kids left. The rest of them were just hanging around when the police showed up and made them scatter like cockroaches. It was pretty funny to watch but at the same time I felt a little bad for not warning them. Lucy took some video of it but I don’t think it’s a good idea to put it online. The officers possibly had a bit of fun scaring the socks off the high schoolers, maybe some of the high schoolers learned something, like not to hang out at the school when dumb things are happening? Lucy also has not really talked about it with friends and teammate’s because she didn’t know what they would say if they knew her mom was the rat. :/
