On the mend and on the mind - 2/5-2/11

The week started off a bit rough. Beth had pink eye, Ruth had a lingering cold and Daryl came down with a stomach bug. After Ruth had been home sick most of the previous week, more sick kids was not what I was hoping for.
After Monday and Tuesday to recoup everyone recovered. Thankfully.
It was just in time because Wednesday and Thursday,
I spent in class to work on getting my CNA certificate.
I don’t really know what I am going to do when I grow up but this seemed like a good way to increase my marketability and help me know if something further in healthcare was appealing to me.
Other good things from the week were-

Lilly visiting to interview Glen for an assignment for one of her film classes.

Larry and Janene helping me with Ruth and Beth while I was at class.

Lucy getting the quilt top done for a baby blanket for one of her favorite teachers.

A date with Glen out to eat and then strolling around Lowe’s getting a few things for the house since we decided we didn’t want to go for a walk in stormy weather.

Brandy coming to church with us and dinner at my parents where we watched the KC Chiefs win the Super Bowl!

My dad getting more movement back in his left arm and hand and the nerve pain subsiding some.

Lucy playing in a sand volleyball tournament with Marian, Ali and a friend and winning their division!

Getting film developed and the scans back.

Lucy’s quilt top
When Lucy deep cleaned and redecorated her room she uncovered her typewriter. Daryl and Ruth had lots of fun on it.

The winning team

All the pictures below were from the film cameras that Lucy and I have. I just got them developed and love the surprise of seeing what was captured.

Primary Activity days day at Camp Tracy playing GaGa ball.
Sam has Cerebral Palsy’s (I think) and I am always amazed at the great effort her his mom and grandparents go to help him have the same experience as all the other kids.
This is Sally, my parents dog, fully enjoying the sprinklers like she does.
Summer swimming
Christmas 2023 taken by Daryl
Christmas Day at Grandma and Grandpa Richins
Testing out Grandpa’s gift from Mikayla
Two great ladies
Cinnamon rolls from New Year’s Eve and the great bear transaction. I need to remember to write about that silliness.

Glen

Ruth enjoying the drinking party
Gunner testing out the new to us sofa we got. It passed.

First picture and family picture of the year. Welcome 2024
Snow play in Idaho with cousins

I'm always amazed at all the things you fit into a week - and I know you're not even talking about most of what you do on the daily!! Lilly's quilt is so beautiful! I love it that you take snapshots with film. Maybe I'll try it and see what happens. Sorry about all the sick kiddos. That's not fun! Congrats to Lucy on the sand volleyball tournament. Very cool!

The letter on the typewriter cracked me up! What are siblings for, after all.

I likewise enjoy finding surprises. Your camera with film is wonderful.

I think you're great for getting a CNA license. If there's anybody who's good at an Emergency, it's you. That makes a good nurse… Anybody medical, really.

L is for the way...

I watched this video and it sealed the deal on this post. I have all sorts of things I could write about, but this has been at the front of my mind for a while. I have really been affected this past year by the divorces of two different couples I know. Not that, I haven't known any one before that has gotten divorced. These have just hit closer to home. One of them is Glen's boss, and Glen has worked with him lately. (This is not the norm. He can go months with out seeing him. He just goes in to work, sees what he's doing that night and goes out.) In working with him, they have talked about stuff and something he said to Glen has really made me think. I wasn't there but it was something to the extent of, "You guys are so lucky, because you love each other, just really love each other." My first thought to this was- yes, yes we do. Then I thought how sad that he and not every married couple have that. The just of all of this rambling is that I love my ...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
