Richins

There was a  lot going on this week. One of the main perks was a four day weekend for the kids. There was MLKJr. Day on Monday and then grade transmittal day on Tuesday for the end of 1st semester. Glen had to work but the kids all had it off.  Monday we mostly cleaned and caught up at home. We talked about going shopping, driving around to get Lilly more hours and visiting a dog park but instead stayed home.  Tuesday, Lilly’s friends surprised her with a visit on a golf cart and took her off for fun and rehearsals. I was glad they had fun and didn’t get in trouble for having six kids on a golf cart. All of the kids got to be with friends this day too.  Lilly's I mentioned. Lucy hung out with Ella. They made hot chocolate macaroons, that were so yummy. Daryl got to play at Carter's with Carter, Ethan and another Carter. Ruth got to play with Anna.  This week seemed like a normal busy week. Upon further inspection there were a lot of good things going on and little or big miracles. Sunday my mom and two of her sisters went away for a few days. We are always trying to get her to take a break so it was wonderful she did. Monday was the last night of Lilly's MDT review. It was even better than the first night. Lucy kindly watched the younger kids so I could go with Glen. It was great to be able to sit and enjoy all of the work those kids put in to the performance.    A couple other things that were cool about that night are- Mr. Jasperson, that choreographed one of the numbers came to watch and talked to the kids a little before and after the show. There have been so many good things from this week that I want to remember. Things in the world and country don't seem good at all. They are upsetting and frustrating and seem very much out of control. But in our little neck of the woods there has been so much good. That is something to focus on.  We are kind of annoyed about another stimulus from the government but we used it to pay off Glen's truck early. It puts us a few months ahead on our get out of debt plan which is a great feeling.  School started back up and everyone got to go back.  Lilly was exposed to COVID-19 at school but because of a change of guidelines and it being a mask to mask exposure she doesn't have to quarantine. That would have changed her week in a bad way. Ruth and Beth went to a free trial class of gymnastics and loved it. I signed them up so now they get to go every week. December 30th, was Evelyn’s 97th birthday. We weren’t sure if she would want to celebrate it but we wanted to have at least cake and ice cream. We started referring b to it as cake and ice cream day when talking about it with people. She is quick and would catch on and say, “I think they are talking about my birthday!” It was fun to see how she reacted each time. Sometimes it would be with excitement and sometimes it would be with dread or tell us to just forget it she was old enough.  It was also fun to hear how old she was. She didn’t/doesn’t remember well all the time.  The most common age was 90. She said 110 but got laughed at so went to 102. She also mentioned 100 and 95. Mostly it was “How old am I?”  Some one would start to say 97 but she would stop them at the 90 and say that’s old enough.” She had a slow but steady stream of visitors all day. Some masked some not.
