1)  How old were you when you were allowed to decorate a tree (or at least help)? I don't remember not being able to help, but that memory is to like age 6, I think. 2)  How many times have you sent a bland present to in-laws for lack of good ideas?I have only had to sent presents to in-laws maybe twice in my life( While they served a mission in Africa), and I don't remember what it was I might have sent or if it was bland.  3)  How many hours did it take you to fall asleep on Christmas Eve once you were aware of the "good stuff" coming in the morning? It seemed like forever but maybe in reality an hour or two. 4)  How many people have asked you if you're "all ready for Christmas" this year (and remember it's only the 8th of December)? 0- I think. I started typing this on November 15, and never finished. I am leaving what I started and will add from there. Our baby Ruth is eight months old as of Monday. We found out she had an ear infection and pink eye that day. She looked so sad. When the doctor said it was pink eye I felt so dumb. For some reason I had convinced myself that it was something else. Tonight as we were eating dinner together Lilly ask to play the movie quote game. We obliged her. Really my mind goes blank when I have to think up a quote on purpose and we play this game at the dinner table and on car rides a LOT.  I was keen on changing the subject or at least derailing the game for a bit. I brought up thanksgiving and ask for a top ten list from everyone. Lilly went first with Daryl interjecting something about grandpa's skid steer. Then Lucy named off her list. When she was done I focused on Daryl a little and ask if he knew what it meant to be thankful for something. He said he did. Lucy ask," Daryl, are you thankful for your family?" Immediately he said," NO, I thankful for grandpa's skid steer, the lawn mower in the garage, and the lights that shining in the house....and the weed whacker in the garage."

That title sounds like the latest horror movie, but it is not. We would never see something like that anyways. I won't pay people to scare me. We like the happier friendlier side of this holiday.  Our Halloween was lots of fun. The costumes got done just in the nick of time(one year my kids will decide to dress up as something that you can find a pre -made costume for or I will have my act together and get the costumes done ahead of time like I always plan too, so I am not pulling an all  nighter finishing them up. I really question my sanity during this time of year.).Everyone got way to much enough candy too. Glen even dressed up three times. I think that is a record. We ended up getting invited to two costume parties besides Halloween. He did not dress up for school though. Since I seem to be on a video kick lately. Here is what Ruth is up to now. She isn't staying a little baby. The girl wants to move and be big like everyone around her. I think she will be our earliest child to walk. (If you know were the title of this post comes from you might have seen too much PBS kids like me.)

JEOPARDY! We are Jeopardy fans at our house. I grew to like it because it was one of my grandpa's favorite shows. He liked it so much that if you were visiting while it was on he would leave the t.v. on and watch it while you were there. When we had t.v. in our house the things we would watch were: the news, PBS kids shows, Jeopardy and some times Wheel of Fortune. Glen was looking through one of the local news channels headlines and found this. It is about The Church showing up as a category on Jeopardy. Here is the clip. Along with that Glen found this funny clip of Ken Jennings on Jeopardy. On a completely different note I am going to be making the blog private soon. Just for fun here is another video. Daryl use to be scared of this little tractor toy of my parents. You can see he has gotten over that though. He is such a funny boy and still seems like an anomaly with all of our girls. Oh, how we love him though! Sorry it is a little long.

Life is moving right along. I have lots to write about but not right now. Here is a video of Ruth that I took of her last month. She is now crawling on her knees or feet and pulling herself up to stand on anything she can. She is growing up WAY too fast, and wants to be big like everyone around her. I think she will be our earliest walker. She has two teeth and loves to feed herself what ever we will let her. We all love her a lot and think she is the cutest baby around.

We have had a busy weekend. Glen had work like usual on Friday night. While he slept the rest of us played. My cousin Matthew and his family have moved from Ohio to California. Since Utah is on the way they stopped and spent a few days here showing their six kids some of the sights. Friday night there was a big family gathering at my Aunt Maridean's house. It was so much fun. I love family and have wonderful memories of big family gatherings and fun adventures with cousins. This brought them right back to the surface. Everyone that could be there was, which included all of my siblings and their families, (minus my brother-in-law Wayne who had to work, and my brother Joe who is in Colorado helping flood victims) all of my Aunt Maridean's family (minus a son-in-law) and most of my Aunt Stephaine's family (Uncle Bob was sick, Kent and his family are in Canada, and Carrie, Brian and Brennen had plans already), plus Evelyn and Roberta.    There was food, and lots of catching up...

Oh, I have so many posts to write but life is coming fast these days it seems and instead of sitting at a computer  I am off other places usually chasing children (or at least tracking them down) and tending to old people.  A few note worthy things that will have to do for now are - Lilly started orchestra at school. She is learning to play the viola. She is also signed up for some lacrosse clinics and in a gymnastics class once a week. With Lilly playing an instrument practicing is a requirement. Mom and Dad decided they should be good examples too so we are trying to practice our instruments now too, instead of letting them just sit and collect dust. It's fun.  I like it already. Lucy is in tumbling once a week now. I think we will end up switching her to gymnastics but it was a step in the right direction to get her in a class. Daryl is 3. It is hard to believe. what do I think about?   communication, family and kids, being a friend, cleaning and death and the process of dying. (Don't worry. I am not thinking of harming myself. It's on a bigger picture/ it happens to everyone level.) I will have to see if I can work on my communication and expound upon these things to explain but for now this is it.

Here are some of the pictures I took while at Uncle Lester's 97th birthday party that was in the first part of August. Everyone was required to have there picture taken with him before they could leave.  John Layland figured out that Daryl could wink and really encouraged him to do that in all of the pictures; he doesn't really need encouragement with that. It was fun seeing the Porter side of the family, though there were a bunch of people I didn't know. My bigger kids loved the trampoline and Ruth loved the drinking cups.  On a funny side note Janene thinks it would be great to set Uncle Lester and Roberta up on a date, you know, since they are the same age and everything! Roberta has NEVER been on a date so I don't know  if 97 would make her ready for her first one. It is a fun thought though!

Since I am a horrible journal writer, this blog turns in to mine for our family. Here are a few things that have been happening  or are happening that I want to remember. At the end of June our neighbor, Alan got our suburban running again for us! It started right up. It was amazing and Glen and I were both shocked but Alan was not, because that is how it is suppose to work. Glen made it through his first semester of grad school. Only four or so more till he is done.  Evelyn's memory is really slipping but she does remember important things,like when she didn't have a car and that my brother is borrowing her genealogy book. She REALLY doesn't like being 89, she says, "It is old and do you know what number comes after it?" Also she doesn't feel that old and she doesn't picture herself that old. 91 was how old one of her grandmothers lived to be and she remembers her being really old but she didn't ever picture herself living to be that old. ...

The school year ended for us on the 2nd of July. Lilly finished third grade and Lucy finished  kindergarten. Both passed with flying colors. Lilly was able to become a knight of the multiplication tables and Lucy's class had a fun end of year program.  The girls have already started the new school year. It will be an interesting one. A new track, no cousins at school with them and Lucy is there all day now. What a fun new adventure! Being knighted. Way to go Lilly! When the kids are in bed for the night Glen likes to check his email for the last time for the day and then see if any of the youtube channels he follows have any new videos. It's turned in to something we like to do together, not the email checking but the video watching. We are sort of nerdy so he is subscribed to nerdy youtube channels.    TED is really good and we can't keep up on all of the new videos they post, about anything and every thing. This one is a fun one! But SmarterEveryDay is really our favorite.He captures amazing pictures with his high speed camera and then explains what is happening in them because he is really smart. These two videos are way cool but really most of what he does is great.

These are our kids ages. It is really crazy for me to think about Lilly being 9. I feel like I just got out of high school the other day but it was longer than I think because I have been married 10 years now and have a nine year old. I guess time flies when you are having fun! Here are a few fun things the kids are doing right now in life. The pictures aren't there best but are very current, like I just went around and took them. Lilly,9- loves reading, writing, jokes, comics, studio C, riding her bike, riding horses, swimming and lots of other things. She wants to try tumbling or gymnastics this fall. She has a few different stories she is working on writing but has just started trying to write comedy sketches. She really loves Studio C( this is what she wrote her sketch to be like ). She just got a short hair cut again. That kind of hair style just seems to work best for her. She would really like an ipod touch or some cool electronic gadget like that but her parents just...
