Relief

Christmas cards are ordered and were on sale! I spent a little more money, but don't have to stick our note on the back this year, which will save me about a day of work. The countertops are installed in the basement!  The plumber has been contacted. When he is done there will just be a few details and our basement project will be done! Glen has tomorrow off besides the rest of the week! I feel like we should be traveling for this holiday because of that.  We aren't. All of our imedeate family is with in two hours so we are staying close, working on projects and enjoying family.

Three word power phrases

Today we had a special session of Stake Conference conducted by a members of the Seventy so we could sustain a new stake presidency. Our previous stake president passed away about two months ago from cancer. He was a good man and fought a valiant battle but the last three years he was really put through the ringer.   The meeting was really good but the last talk by Elder Lynn G. Robbins was the one that struck me the most. He talked about the difference in being a thankful person and a grateful person. The difference is that grateful people go beyond giving thanks by serving those they are thankful for. He also shared this quote I really like, "The greatest of faults is to be conscious of none." He then gave a list of three word power phrases and talked about how each was important. They are like giving your spouse a box of chocolates.  They are:   You were right,  I was wrong,  I am sorry Please forgive me Yes, my...

Is it just me?

I have mentioned before that I really like to enjoy the holidays in the order they come in. I really avoid Christmas music and what not till December if I can, but my kids are pulling out those CD's now. I ask them if we can please listen to something else but usually they win out. We have been listening to Christmas music until I can come up with some excuse to stop it or just can't handle it any more. I have decided what I really want to hear is Thanksgiving music. I just have this hankering for American folk songs, (I  guess that is what you would call them?) like: Come Thou Foundt, All Creatures of Our God and King,  and Simple Gifts. These songs proved to be difficult to find today when I was looking for them on Pandora. Anyone else have "Thanksgiving music" they like or listen too? I would love suggestions. I understand if it's just me and I'm nuts.

A Peak at Something Better

I am feeling rather stagnant in life right now. Rather than whine I will give you a peak of something better that will be done soon. Then I will show it all off.  My family is working on a project. This is my mom's side of the family. It's spear headed by my brother and sister-in-law but everyone is helping in someway or another. It's been in the works for about a year, and now we are down to just a few weeks before it will all be over and we see if someone else liked the idea we have worked so hard on. It's called "Six missing pieces." It's a tree for The Festival of Trees with a Lego theme because this side of the family has six boys that are watching over us instead of living life with us.  This is Dylan, one of the missing six.

"Haiving"

This boy of mine is convinced he needs to be "haiving" though both his dad and I have told him there is nothing there to shave. He just wants to be big like everyone else.

I just want to go to SCHOOL

My entertainment this morning has been Lilly. She has been up since 7, playing with Daryl, and getting ready for school. She was already to walk out the door when I asked her if she had finished putting away her clean laundry from her basket. When she begrudginly said she had not I old her that she could spend 5-10 minutes and finish that job and still be on time to school. That was not what she wanted to hear. She started moaning and stomping and asking why she couldn't just go to school. I just persisted that she needed to finish her job from yesterday and she would still be on time to school. This lead to tears, more stomping, and even a moment of sulking/ throwing a fit on the floor. She kept saying," I just want to go to school. Why won't you let me go to school? I want to go right now. I don't want to do this. I bet you don't want me to go to school." It was rather funny.  At one point while she was on the floor I sent Daryl over to her. He gave her a ...

American Gothic

I forgot to include the other Halloweenish thing we did. Glen and I were invited to a party at our friends cabin. We didn't know until a day ahead of time if we could go due to Glen's weekend job, but found out we could. When Glen told his friend, the day before, that we were coming he told him it was a Halloween party and costumes were strongly encouraged.  Now neither Glen nor I are really costume people but we gave it a try.  When I ask Glen for his ideas he wasn't sure but said maybe if I could get a hold of some old farm clothes, we could be that farmer and lady with the pitch fork.  I did what I could to made it work. I borrowed an apron, overalls and a pitchfork from Roberta  and Evelyn and the cameo from my mom. Then I found a black shirt at Target that I could were just regularly and used what we already had for the rest. The only thing we lacked were the glasses for Glen. People figured us out, even though the pitchfork got left at home and thought o...
