Constitution Day

What a wonderful and historic day! September 17, 1787 the founding fathers of our country signed this essential document! If we fast forward 193 years another wonderful and historic event happened. Larry and Janene Richins had their first and only son! His name Larry Glen Richins. What a fabulous benefit that he loves the constitution that he shares a birthday with.

So what did we do for this GRAND occasion? Well that very evening I took Glen out to dinner. I had to choose the restaurant even though it was his birthday, I think I might make him do the same for me! We went to Salt City Burger Co. I had heard about this place on t.v. The show had done a burger challenge with 5 local burger joints to see who had the best burger and because an In and Out Burger had been announced to come to Draper, Utah. Salt City won. And after going there we know why. We had the best burgers I think we have ever had. The meat is ground fresh every day, they actually grind bacon in with the beef for the bacon burger and they have a condiment bar so you can put what you like on your burger.Glen had a bacon burger and I had a turkey burger with blue cheese on it and we shared an order of 1/2 fries 1/2 onionrings. Ooooh baby! They were AMAZING! After that we got ice cream to top the night off! The ice cream was really good but I can't remember the name of the shop because the burgers left such an impression!

On Sunday we had a family dinner with both of our families at my parents house. I made him an earthquake cake, instead of a BYU cake which I had done the past two years. ( not purposely)

I ended up making two of them because the actual earthquake cake has coconut and walnuts or pecans on the bottom of it and there are a bunch of people in our extended family that have not acquired a taste for those things. I also made him these chocolates called oreo bites that are completely naughty and super, super fabulous. I really had to send them to school with him to give them away so I could get them out of the house for the sake of my hips.

What a celebration!

As a side note if we were food critics I would let you know that just this past Friday we went to another burger place, that Glen had heard was good from some students, called Five Guys. It was good, but really no comparison to Salt City. So if you come to Utah, the Salt Lake Valley in particular, and have a hankering for a REALLY GOOD hamburger, we recommend going to Salt City Burger Co.

Glen is lucky. Not just lucky -- like blessed beyond measure because you're his wife. Tell him I said so next time he's acting like a guy. And I'll tell my cousin Happy Birthday separately.

Happy (late) Birthday to Glen! The world is a better place because he's in it. My earliest memories of Glen include a lot of head-banging to go to sleep. (Does he still do that?)

Also, I need to know the recipe for your earthquake cake. It looks scrumptious! And these oreo bites? What's all that about? I need to hear more!

Ditto to what Kirsta said. My sentiments are precisely what she expressed.

California here we come

July 15-19  Early Monday morning we went to the Provo airport to head to John Wayne airport then down to San Diego to celebrate Larry and Janene's 50th wedding anniversary. We met up with everyone but Josh and his girlfriend, Amberlee in Provo. They left earlier and drove so they could visit her family as well. My dad is a bit John Wayne fan so we had to take a picture with The Duke at his airport for him.  Once we had our luggage, rental van and food in our bellies we had to get sand between our toes and salt water at least on our feet. We ate at a fun little place in San Clemente called Cafe Rae. It was really little. Our group of nine took up about half their seats. It was really good food and they had great hospitality.  Our next stop was the USS Midway in San Diego. Larry had talked about visiting this and the Saint Mary for a long time. It was one of the main reasons we went to San Diego. It was nice to make it happen. I am not really in to military stuff but it was...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
