The last weekend of April was Trevor Herpel's missionary farewell and also the weekend before graduation for Glen from Southern Utah University (He didn't want to take the time off work to do the whole pomp and circumstance thing). Since Glen had never been on campus as a student and we thought it would be fun to hear Trevor speak and show our kids where Mark, "that guy that lives in Grandpa and Grandmas's basement" lives the other half of his life, we made a trip to Southern Utah.
We left Friday after Glen was done with work and headed to Fillmore to our favorite place to eat in that town, Cliff's Car Hop.
We didn't get to Cedar till late and just went to bed right away. The next day we headed to campus. Since Glen is not familiar with the campus, we all needed a bit of help on where to go.
We played on the hill outside the student center. We had recently watched "Into The Woods", and the girls were recreating the Agony song by running and then sliding on their knees down the hill very dramatically. If you haven't seen the movie, here is the video of the song so you understand a bit. (Don't feel bad if you don't understand the movie. It took watching it at least two times to figure it all out. It is a mix up of a bunch of fairy tales with some new stuff thrown in.) It will hopefully make you laugh at it's silliness and absurdness.
We wandered campus and took pictures of us doing serious and silly things.
The kids really enjoyed this neat spot that had all these statues. I can't find or think of the what this would actually be called so neat spot is my term for it.
After playing on campus, we went to the Pastry Pub for lunch, which one of his professors had recommended. We would recommend it now too. It was very yummy. Then Ruth needed a nap so we went for a drive. We had planned on going to Cedar Breaks National Monument, but we drove in to a snow storm that kept getting worse. When it got to white out conditions we decided the monument would have to wait for another day.
Daryl just made himself at home. He pulled up a seat at the front counter and then watched as the waitress went in and out serving people and would open the door for her. They have good food and good treats too. We tried the sweet potato fries with marshmallow dipping sauce and it was loved by everyone, but a little too sweet for me.
We found the student center and bookstore and supported them well. We all got something with SUU on it to celebrate. The plan is to get a picture of everyone together in them but that hasn't happened yet. We didn't get the glasses for Daryl but thought he looked pretty cute in them!
The kids found a "house" or hide out in this tree.

So we headed back to town and found this cool park. It was really neat but the weather did not cooperate for us to play long. Sprinkling rain and strong winds were okay but when it really started raining we headed back to the car, and down to St. George.
