Daryl at 10

 Daryl turned ten on Thursday the tenth. His golden birthday.  I didn’t get too many pictures of him and he is fine with that. 

He is a fun, good, thoughtful kid. All he ask for was a bike for his birthday. We went shopping on Saturday to try and make that happen. We found the one he wants but we make our kids go halfway on their first good gear bike. We came home with out it to count his money and make sure he could fulfill his part of the deal.

It's a few days later. We went and got Daryl his bike. He loves it and is always asking if anyone wants to go for a  bike ride now. For his birthday we had a late dinner and invited Grandma and Grandpa Richins over to celebrate with us. Paige came too! It's fun to have her around more right now. 

Daryl ask for "chicken pillow" for dinner and then brownies instead of cake for dessert.  The chicken pillows are actually creamy chicken and bacon pastry pockets. The brownies were a recipe one of Glen's co workers made and shared at work. He loved them so much he got the recipe from her. They have cookie dough frosting on them. It is like two treats in one. 

Here are 10 things about Daryl right now-

  1. He is sensitive to my moods and will randomly give me a hug when he can tell or thinks I have been having a hard time.
  2. He is loud and rough and silly in a completely different way than all his sisters.
  3. He is interested in how things work and thinks he wants to do something with engineering when he gets older.
  4. He is inquisitive. He asks lots of questions trying to figure how and why things work.
  5. He has a great sense of justice.
  6. He likes to help make things like cookies and sometimes dinner. 
  7. He likes being outside and is an early riser and early to bed kind of guy like his dad.
  8. He is strong and doesn't quite know his own strength. With Grandparents or Evelyn I have to remind him to hug gently.
  9. He is a great helper. He loves to weed wack for Glen or Grandpa Richins and mow the lawn for Grandma Egbert.
  10. He is a hard worker and good friend. He is working hard in speech to get his letter R sound. He takes his time and does his best in school. 

This is from watching fireworks on the roof on September 11. The four of us were the only ones home.

I once read, "There is no one nicer than a ten year old." It seems like yours is particularly that way. Happy birthday to Darryl!

July 15-19  Early Monday morning we went to the Provo airport to head to John Wayne airport then down to San Diego to celebrate Larry and Janene's 50th wedding anniversary. We met up with everyone but Josh and his girlfriend, Amberlee in Provo. They left earlier and drove so they could visit her family as well. My dad is a bit John Wayne fan so we had to take a picture with The Duke at his airport for him.  Once we had our luggage, rental van and food in our bellies we had to get sand between our toes and salt water at least on our feet. My cup with blessings overflows

 I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...
