Walked and walked and walked

Here are picture highlights from a couple weeks ago. I am going to try to be better at documenting the good we have going on. The struggle is really and always around but there is so much good going on too.
Also this post has nothing to do with walking but I try to copy Heather and have parts of song lyrics be the titles of my posts. This is the phrase that came to mind. It seems like we are in the middle of an adventure right now, mostly with Evelyn, there is a lot of space to cover before we get to where we want to be. We are like pioneer children who sang as they walked and walked and walked….But I’m not really singing. It’s more complaining and morning and stressing and worrying. I think I will try singing because it might have a more positive outcome than what I am currently doing.  Probably a bit of inspiration for me to have a better attitude.
On to the pictures.

I checked on Evelyn with the cameras this day knowing that her nurse was coming. This was the scene I got and it warmed my heart. Arla is so good to Evelyn and us. I am so glad we have her on this hospice journey we are on. And Marian. I think I would have gone crazy with out her helping with Evelyn and Roberta these last five years.

Evelyn had a great day on Tuesday before this perm and haircut happened. So good, she was even up for a bath when I half joking ask if she wanted one. That was a big shock. Wednesday when this happened was not so good but she really wanted her hair done so she mustard up extra strength. Then she was in bed for the next few days recovering.

Daryl is figuring out his style. Though he was testing out one of Uncle Bert’s ties here. That is Evelyn and Roberta’s dad and yes his ties and lots of his clothes are still in the closets of the house:/) Daryl had me take him to DI to find some short sleeve button up shirts he could wear in buttoned over his t-shirt to school. This shirt was one of them and if I remember right his dad had a similar style when I met him in high school.
Ruth asked and I let her play with my hair after church. She loves combing through hair with her hands mainly but brushes also work. She seems to be enjoying 4th grade and likes her teacher but told me she is at the bottom of the list of her favorite teachers, mostly because she hasn’t completed the year with her and so she doesn’t have enough information to properly rank her yet.
This is Glen looking at the mouse Gunner caught but we didn’t let him eat. And Lucy’s leg showing she is holding Gunner back from trying to eat that mouse. It is both wonderful and horrible to have a mouser dog.

We got…actually that should say Glen got the girls room primed for new paint. He is good. I guess it could be we because I got the paint to the house. He just did all the painting.
Lilly came home for the weekend or at least a night. She made cinnamon rolls with some help. She got one night off work to help her have more time for school. It is fun to see her and see how she’s working hard being a grown up.
My cousin, Matthew became a grandpa and since his daughter and new granddaughter live in Provo all the Utah family threw them a baby shower. My mom, Lucy, Ali and Julie are in the above picture.
This was opening presents. It was fun to see all the baby things and not be in the middle of having babies.
Emily hosted the shower at her house and had things decorated so nicely.
Aunt Steph holding baby Rebecca Joy. She is so little. I enjoyed holding her and then giving her back to her mom.
Emily and SadieRose. They are remarkable ladies, taking care of their husband and dad who is declining rapidly from ALS.

I love these glimpses into your life and Evelyn's! She seems to be doing such a hard thing with grace. And I so relate to pretty much all of your life. Lily coming home for just a snatch--isn't that wonderful?! And Lucy holding Gunnar back from eating the mouse. Poor Gunnar! Such a good dog to have caught that mouse! And Darryl finding style in vintage ties and shirts. I love that. And Ruth, with her thoughtful withholding of judgement, and her wanting to do your hair. You are SUCH a good mom to let her! And the baby shower--all of it was just perfect. You said the exact right things.

I enjoyed your comment about having a good time at the baby shower and not being in the throes of having babies. Times and seasons, right? So true. How fun to watch Lilly growing up and to still get to see her! Daryl is fun. I loved the shirt and tie.

Here’s another line that almost a song,
Just keep swimming
just keep swimming
just keep swimming swimming swimming.

California here we come

July 15-19  Early Monday morning we went to the Provo airport to head to John Wayne airport then down to San Diego to celebrate Larry and Janene's 50th wedding anniversary. We met up with everyone but Josh and his girlfriend, Amberlee in Provo. They left earlier and drove so they could visit her family as well. My dad is a bit John Wayne fan so we had to take a picture with The Duke at his airport for him.  Once we had our luggage, rental van and food in our bellies we had to get sand between our toes and salt water at least on our feet. We ate at a fun little place in San Clemente called Cafe Rae. It was really little. Our group of nine took up about half their seats. It was really good food and they had great hospitality.  Our next stop was the USS Midway in San Diego. Larry had talked about visiting this and the Saint Mary for a long time. It was one of the main reasons we went to San Diego. It was nice to make it happen. I am not really in to military stuff but it was...

My cup with blessings overflows

I am trying to get back in the habit of blogging. Before I go to bed, even though I should be in bed here are blessings from this week. I don’t know it I will remember them all there were so many.  Being home to attend church with our ward.  Talks from two sister in our ward, Louisa Jones who is a brand new young woman and Holly Draney who is the Primary President, on Sister Kristin Yee’s conference talk, that complimented each other well.  They reminded me that God is in the details and even when mistakes are made he can use it to help us learn and bless us. Louisa talked about how she was mad when her parents decided they should move a few years ago but Heavely Father has made it work out. Holly brought up the definitions of the words possibility and joy. She also talked about repairing quilts that had things happen to them. Also a talk from Matt Reeves about the power of the priesthood and how it has blessed his life and has preserved his life.  A great less...

Head to the hills- July 7-14

Good things from this week were- Getting dirt to fill the planter box Daryl made for Grandpa Richins. It’s ready for him to use now!  Getting ready for girls camp. Watching Lucy play volleyball in a tournament at UVU with high school team girls. It’s crazy that is her last one as a high school player.  Eating dinner on the roof and watching the sunset. Girls camp, even the one bad part.  Showering after girls camp Sunday dinner at Larry and Janene's and playing with the whip These cool plants were at the nursery we got soil from. I think I might want some in my yard.  Lucy played in a volleyball tournament at UVU with the high school team.  Lucy thought eating on the roof would be a good idea one night so we could watch the sunset better. She was right. Though Ruth but mostly Beth got pretty comfortable exploring up there. My mom safety barometer went quite high till they got down.  The Oquirrh Mountain temple fit right between the trees for a perfect view....
